Reflecting on this school year, what have you learned? What is your advice for those just getting started?

Find specific needs for students in every unit, and regroup them based on those needs. It takes more work, but the groups should be flexible to fill in the gaps that we sometimes ignore or assume aren't there.Over 8 years ago

It definitely benefits the students! Don't get too frustrated with yourself as a teacher. Take a step back and think about the positive. Some days will be easy and some will be more difficult.Over 8 years ago

Guided math looks different from unit to unit. The needs of your children drive the daily plan. I love that it can be fluid and used as a means of meeting the needs of the children.Over 8 years ago

I have learned it is ok to vary group meetings from day to day based on needs and on unit. I have learned to shorten my whole group mini lesson for better time management.Over 8 years ago

"Can Do" list should be enriching and extending of the content, not just busy workOver 8 years ago

I've learned that the number of times you meet with groups is based off of the students needs and understanding of the content. Groups can be different daily depending on the information they have grasped in the unit.Over 8 years ago

THIS IS NOT GUIDED READING. It's okay to for your guided math groups and lessons and stations to look very different from unit to unit.Over 8 years ago

Guided math may not look the same for every single math unit you will teach. Sometimes it can change from day to day based on your students needs. As long as you feel like you are meeting the needs of your students, you are doing great!Over 8 years ago
